The Wife and I are thinking about heading to Wallace in two weeks for a weekend getaway. Is it too early this year? Any recommendations?

There are a lot of good trails right out of Wallace. Google arcgis and idaho trails. That will give you a map and let you know what tails are open to ATVs. Snow is going fast so you will have plenty to ride.

last time we rode in Wallace was in August 2008...you could ride quads on the pavement if they had an ATV license on them. went out in the mornings and at lunch time rode into town to grab a burger and some beers (i think the place's name was the 13/13 ?). gassed back up and headed out for the evening ride...guy i went with was older so he was in bed by 8 but i struck out for the evening ride and a dam bull moose about ran over me about 5 miles north of town one evening. Don't know what the regs are now but Idaho was definately a great place to go to ride back then...found some real cool old mining cabins also

Thanks for the info!
You know you've got a great wife when she wants to go camping and riding for your 20th wedding anniversary.
We ride Idaho all summer long, it's a awesome state to play in.

1313 Club is good food and family friendly. The mine tour is worth the time. The brothel museum is worth the visit. Interesting history. The antique stores in town are pretty cool. The old golf course restaurant in Kellogg has great food. Hotels are expensive in Kellogg and Wallace.

Any recommendations for camping? Quiet Camp ground, or dry camping.

Head right over moon pass out of wallace to
Avery if it's open and you are in the joe. Lots of dry camping there.

I was on Moon pass a week and a half ago, still had 4 feet of snow. The two roads to the west, the one going to Slate Saddle and the one straight ahead were still snowed in.

Tap over the hill, look to the left and see my big black plastic lagoon I built. Go down the hill and there is a decent rv park down from the truck stop etc. I've camped off the road heading north a few times. Usually, pull up a gravel road about 4-5 miles north off I-90 for the night. There are about three logging roads and head back a mile or two and there are some good landings to dry camp on for a night or two.

We ended up staying in Wallace. Friday it rained all day so we drove around in the pickup. Checked out Bumblebee campground and the surrounding are. Then drove up to Moon Pass no snow whatsoever. Decided to come back the next day on the ATV. Rode up,a side trail to Slate Saddle. A couple miles from the Saddle on on of the bare ridges we say two bears. Neither was huge, but they were not cubs either. We rode into Avery, then took a couple side trails back to Wallace. Had a good time and looking forward to checking out the area again.

Me and my cousin were in Wallace two weeks ago and they had a big ATV/UTV poker run going on called the Muddy butt run. Ran into a bunch of people from Omak that were there, even the commissoner, It looked like a great ride/time so I thing were gonna pull the trailer over next year and do it. Everyone just riding in town and stopping at the bars.
