.22 Nosler AR
« on: June 09, 2017, 06:27:27 AM »
I have a 6mm/.22 Nosler barrel in the works(Being chambered). 9 twist  Bartlien blank. I was getting everything parts wise together when I found a smoking deal on a new Odin Works stainless 18" DMR barrel 1-8 twist) chambered in .22 Nosler so I figured instead of just buying new brass for the 6mm/.22 Nosler. I could assemble a AR with this barrel and shoot it until my 6/.22 Nosler barrel arrives. Swap the barrels and have plenty of once fired brass to work with.

Waiting on a couple more parts to be delivered next week. Need to decide on optics and pick up my upper, lower and handguard from my Cerakote guy. Should have it ready to go by next weekend.

Nice pile of parts so far. Is swapping from 5.56 to Nosler 22 as easy as a new  barrel , bcg and magazine ?

Barrel and Mag only!

The 22-6.8 SPC has been out for awhile. Pushed hard by defuncto Black Hole. With Black Holes version you had to use a 6.8 bolt. Nosler took the 6.8 capacity case, rebated the rim so a standard 5.56 bolt face/ bolt carrier group would run it. The case for the .22 Nosler is a case of its own. Nosler tested it and dropped the coin to SAAMI spec it, which I respect. It shows a serious commitment they have "Skin in the game". If you don't have "Skin in the game" the rest is all a dog and pony show. In most cases guys will run their mouths way past their wallets capabilities.

A standard 5.56 bolt carrier group runs with the .22 Nosler. All you need is a barrel and a 6.8 SPC Mag.

I'll post more pics as I assemble it. I get a kick out of the "AR build" term. Because nothing is being built. A guy is just assembling already "Built" parts.  A AR is a very simple platform once you have a little hands on working knowledge of it.

I'm thinking about ordering a Leupold 4.5-14x50 LRP with the "Impact 32" MOA reticle. Never spent anytime with the "LRP" optics. I would rather shoot the optics before purchasing them.

As Dirk McFiddlesticks always says, "if it doesn't require a dial indicator, you're just assembling parts". It reminds me of a decal I made for someone a while back.

I agree with ya all the way ,that's what turned me off , on the 25/45 sharps cause they don't have the goods to make it SAAMI round and to greedy. That's gonna be a great rifle.

Optics should be here this coming week. Then it's time to assemble "Crimson" the obscenely bright AR.

Looks like a fun project to me.

One of these in a 20 Nosler could be a fun project too.  You better go ahead and just order up a 20 Nosler barrel as well, then do a comparison review so we all know which one to go with.

I sure hope it shoots those 77gr bullets well! :chuckle:

I'm really intrigued by this chambering so it should be interesting to see how it does for you.

I picked up a variety of bullets to try.

Nosler 70gr RDF
Nosler 77gr CC
Nosler 69gr CC
Hornady 75gr ELD-M
Hornady 75gr A-Max
Hornady 52gr ELD-M

I really like CFE223, BLC2 and H4895 in my other 6.8 SPC based wildcats. So I'll give the same powders a try in the .22 Nosler. After I shoot up some of the 400 rounds of factory Nosler 77gr CC's for the brass.👍

This will be a dedicated varmint SPR for Coyotes and Rockchucks. I'm still tossing around which scope to put on it. I have a Leupold 4.5-14x50 LRP (Impact 32 reticle) and a 8.5-25x50 Long Range(Fine duplex).

I like the higher power scopes for varmints but the size of the LRP fits the AR better. This isn't a calling rifle, most shots on coyotes where I'm at start at about 300 yards on the average. I may start with the 8.5-25 for the bench/load development and accuracy. Then switch to the 4.5-14 for the field???

Over at PM the guys are having trouble with the 22 nosler tearing up rims.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Make mine a Minaska

I'll find out soon enough. If I have issues with the .22 Nosler. I have several barrels I can put on this AR. 6.5 Grendel, .223 Wylde, 6.5 BRX or .243 LBC/Grendel

Are they using adjustable gas blocks? Or tuning the port size?

I would think if they used a 556 port size and no adjustable block it would be pretty hard on the brass.

Mil spec spring and buffer, light weight carrier group, .110 gas port, adjustable gas block, Precision Armarment M472 brake. Should tune right in and shoot smooth.😊👍
