Youth Tags - Hunt Coordinator Hunts, how do they work?
« on: June 16, 2017, 09:16:20 AM »
I put in a 13 year-old young man that I am mentoring in for some youth hunts this year.  He won an antlerless tag, in Region 5.  This is a Damage Control hunt with a hunt coordinator.

Has anyone ever picked up and hunted one of these tags before? If so, I have a few questions:
-How does the process work?  Do you register with the HC?
-Do they introduce you to the landowner that you are hunting for or just give you a name/# to contact?
-Was it a good experience?
-I assume this is not a second tag, so if he gets called, he would have to pass if he filled his tag in the general season.  Does this sound right?

I'm sure I will get some instructions mailed out, but thought I'd ping the collective to see what folks have seen in the past.

The hunt coordinator should contact you with the information you need. If you don't hear by early July, contact WDFW and see if they can put you in touch.

Unless specified otherwise they are not second permits.

These permits are "as needed" which means your son may or may not get an opportunity to hunt, depending on damage in that particular area and time of year.

Good luck.

We were given a 5 day window, but I can only get away from work for 2 half days.  So we will try to make it happen in that window.  Only takes one deer at the right time/place to make it work!
