No calves
« on: June 18, 2017, 08:43:33 AM »
Went for a long drive in the Bethel area Sat.  Saw lots of healthy cows.  Saw no calves.  Shouldn't there be some on the ground by now?

For sure.  There are a ton in the colockum.  Thing is the grass and brush are crazy tall right now so it is hard to see the calves.  Give it a month and I bet you see a ton of them.

One large herd of at least 40 cows  must have been spooked by something were traveling in a line.   No calves   Two other herds   One which was laying down so maybe there could have been some in there    The other was. Milling on a clear cut. No calves.  Watched it for half hour.   Still a great day.  Still drifts so we couldn't drive to the top of timber wolf

I have seen that also.  Almost like they break up into groups that either have calves or not.

Some times the calves will be in a group together hiding away from the cows

I was in bethel and saw a few herds with calves spread out in them. Also driving home had a cow in middle of highway. Behind her was another cow and three very small calves. Wouldn't be surprised if the herds you saw had calves laying in the tall grass.
