I just do not understand why the West side general elkseason is so late in the year. As most of the hunting isdone in higher elevations we must continually fightwinter weather due to the late season. This not onlypresents difficult and unpleasant hunting conditions butcreates a safety issue to the hunters. Snow storms ofgreat intensity can develop very rapidly in these highelevations. I have been there during these events andyou literally can face whiteouts and loose the ability torecognize landmarks. Even without the snow theinclement weather can make hunting condition almostunbearable. Oregon normally starts elk season a weekearlier that Washington does. I would recommend thisfor us as well or even better the last weekend ofOctober.
We are continuing a policy of not having an overlap inour deer and elk seasons, so opening the elk season inOctober is not currently feasible.Weather is very unpredictable in the fall. Conditions asyou described happen periodically, but some huntersprefer inclement weather for hunting. Our seasons aretimed to accommodate average weather patterns and fitin between seasons for other species or user groups
WTF is this guy thinking!oyeah my days off are,my wifes flowing heavey on this weekend.Im thinking front wiper.Hope he uses these
It seems like the hunting department is doing everythingit can to lessen the chances of a successful hunt orharvest. Why is hunting season right around daylightsavings so half you hunting trip is screwed up. Also, specifically for elk.....If the rut is in Sept/Oct then whydo DFW keep pushing back the hunting time formodern firearm. In 08 it was moved from the first weekof November to the last week of October. This has a bignegative impact on east side hunters. Weatherconditions are more favorable later on in the year. Somoving it back a week really sucked. Even above the4000 ft range I was mid to high 50's. If they don’t wantus to harvest then why sell hunting licenses in the firstplace? Also for east side hunts. The Yakima area has a millioncows. The cows are good eating. Why don’t DFW relaxthe impossible spike only system once in a while and lethunters harvest cows every other year or every thirdyear? You shouldn't have to have a special tag or aspecial draw to harvest a cow there indefinitely.
ROAD HUNTER!
I think the guy who complained about elk season starting around the time daylight saving switches tops that. He claimed the time switch messes up that whole week for him. My oh my the things we can complain about . nwhunter
