Bowtech Carbon Icon DLX
« on: June 28, 2017, 06:49:26 PM »
A local shop is selling the Bowtech Carbon Icon with the DLX package for only $800.  I am really thinking about buying this bow.  It would be an upgrade from my Diamond Outlaw with the RAK package.  Do you all think it is worth the money to invest in this upgrade?

Thanks!

Really this bow is not much different than your outlaw as far as performance. Just a tad faster and  the accessories are much nicer but not what I would recommend or choose except for the tight spot quiver which in my opinion is the best there is. Those run around 120 bucks new by themselves. Although this is a bowtech, it really doesn't have the key feature that the flagship bowtechs offer which is the overdrive binary cam system that is guaranteed tunable and very easy to tune if you know what you are doing. I'm not saying that the carbon icon won't tune and tune well, but there is really no comparison in the level of precision you can achieve with and without the ODB system.

For around that same price point, you could get into several better options in my opinion. The obsession turmoil MSRP is 699 and IBO is 350 fps, so you could get a ton more performance for similar cash after you outfit it. Also, you wouldn't get stuck with a ripcord ace or MBG sight.

Similarly, this time of year you can shop for deals on past years flagship bows. Right now podium archery in greenacres, WA has bowtech experiences new in the box for 599 + 15 bucks shipping on ebay. In my opinion you would be WAY better off buying one of these and selling your current bow to buy accessories.

What it really comes down to is you need to shoot bows and find what is right for you.

I have the carbon icon, and have been very happy with it.  I came in looking at the reign 7, and left with the icon.  The draw on the icon was more comfortable to me, and the bow has tuned fine.  You have to find what is comfortable to you, bows are allot like boots not everyone fits everyone well.

Where do i go to shoot multiple bows?  Im left handed so most shops dont have many in stock. I shot the icon with just a rest installed and liked it, but didnt get a great feel fir how much of an upgrade it would be since the draw length was set short, no sight, etc.

You may have to call around to try different brands most shops only have a few brands.  It would also help to narrow down who has left handed bows in stock.
