New Berger 6.5 155 EOL
« on: June 28, 2017, 07:28:59 PM »
Talked to Bob Bexk today and they are going to start testing the new Berger 6.5 mm 155 grain EOL.  Preliminary BC was around .717?  Something close to that. I like that Berger is coming out with some heavier bullets for the over bore cartridges.

High BC is like a girl with big boobs. It's nice, but it isn't everything.

Ya, but ad a fast girl bullet with big boobs BC, and you may have a winner,

Depending on the cartridge these 155's will be shot in, it'll be interesting to see if they can shoot them fast enough to outperform the 130 or 140's.  I know quite a few 260 and 6.5 Creed shooters that were switching back to the 130's, instead of the 140's, because they could shoot the 130's a fair bit faster and they would outperform the heavier bullets.  I know there were quite a few 7mm shooters that couldn't get the 195's to run fast enough to out do the 180's because they were pressuring out with the 195 before they could get them running fast enough to beat the 180's.  I don't know if that'll be the case with these new 155/.264 bullets but sometimes you run into a situation where it's to much of a good thing and it kills the performance.

I'll bet there is a good chance we start seeing larger cased wildcats being built though.  Been wanting to do a necked down 6.5-7mm Blaser Mag and if this bullet works out, could make for a nice setup.

I wonder how fast the popular 6.5saum (well its popular in some circles) would push these.

I was just thinking the other day that a 6.5/270wsm would be easy and a lot of fun.  Heck, a fast twisted 264 mag would be fun with this bullet too.

Might be worth a try in a 26 Nosler.

I thought about running them in my new 6.5 wsm. I could easily get 3000-3050 out of it. But the sig 2400 has some custom drag bc calculations for the 140 Berger hybrid that are nice to have.  And it's still a few months out from
Being sold.  I didn't want to wait tell September to start load development.

Might have to give these a try in the 6.5-06 AI when it gets up and running, see what I can push them at and see if they can keep up with the eldx and 140 berger

I did do some number crunching and if I had a 140 going 3150 and a 155 going 3050. It would be superior ballistics.

This is smallest case I'd bother trying these in.

To be fair, Matrix Ballistics has been making a 160gr VLD for years. I shoot those in the 6.5 Badger (Biggerhammer's 6.5/338 RUM improved wildcat) at 3450 fps. It tracks out to about 1800 yards using a .313 G7 BC. I just haven't shot it past that so I can't speak to how far the is accurate.

Would love to try some out in my 264 win.  Leave those lighter bullets to the creedmoor kiddies :chuckle:

 :yeah:

I think you'd need something with a case size of at least as big as the WSM case and bigger to see much, if any, gain with these.  Should be a good bullet for the 6.5-300 Wby mag provided they have a fast enough twist to stabilize them and as already mentioned the 26 Nosler, 6.5 WSM, 6.5 RUM based wildcats, 6.5 STW as well as a whole slew of other large case capacity 6.5 wildcats.  I'm assuming a 1-8tw will work for these??

Yorke, since you've been shooting the 160's does a 1-8tw stabilize those or are you using something faster than a 1-8tw???
