Wheels for Duramax

 Time for new wheels for my 06 Silverado with a Duramax. I actually like the stock PYO 10 hole polished wheels. But mine are peeling and looking ugly. Considering getting another set of them. Seen some good deals on used ones. Lots of new ones on ebay. But need to be careful because all but 1 set were only rated for 2100 lbs! Overloaded as soon as they go on!
 Also looking at some really nice sets of Hummer H2 wheels. I know they will bolt right up. Are an inch and a half wider
. And a lot of guys run them. My concern with the H2 wheels is the weight. they are 37 lbs. each compared to 18 for the stock wheels. I'm mostly wondering how the added weight will affect the fuel economy on the Duramax. I really like my 18-19mpg all around driving. I'm also thinking about going from a 265/75 16 Toyo At2 to a similar height Toyo ht. So thinking the hiway tire may even out the mpg with the weight difference of the wheels. Just wondering if any of you folks have any experience with this?

you really worried about wheel weight on a diesel duramax? We aren't shaving off 10/100ths of a second on a drag car or anything.. its like, having a passenger eating a double whopper added to the rig.

 Ya, I was kinda wondering about that. But I also think there is a big difference in adding 20 lbs to each wheel and getting them moving. Vs. throwing 80 lbs in the bed of the truck. I'm not worried about the power. I have plenty of that. More interested in the fuel economy. Like I say, I really like getting 18 or 19 mpg. Dont really want to lose that.

Man you get that good of diesel mileage???  I'm very jealous, my 06 with 20'' wheels and 35'' tires only get about 12 to 14 at most.

Ya. It has a little over 200,000 miles on it. Ive put 50,000 of those on. I have 265/75 16s on it since I bought it. Adjusted the speedo for the slight difference from stock size, and have hand calculated almost every fill up. I almost always get 18 mpg all around driving. Not much city. Not much Hiway. Mostly country roads. And I don't have a light foot.

With 35s your tires are almost 4 1/2" taller than stock.  if you haven't adjusted your speedo I bet your averaging a good  1 1/2 mpg better than what your seeing. I like the looks of the bigger tires and wheels. But its a lot of added weight and diameter and it really sucks the juice. Ive read on some of the forums that they lose 2- 3 mpg with similar setups.

Our 02 Duramax gets 17 empty on average. The 03 is about the same but, is chipped and carries a dog box which is about 1,000lbs heavier than stock. My 02 PSD gets around 16. All combo on highway and city. In the old days I've squeaked out 18-19 but....that's driving like a baby all day long. Pulling the horse trailer or the car trailer and tractor around they all plow down to 12-13 mpg. I've gotten as bad as 10mpg pulling heavier loads and they all act about the same except the 03 Duramax chipped and piped pulls a lot stronger but, it's a thirsty rig. Until you kick up to big tires it isn't going to make any difference which is notable.

Another option you may tho k about is having the stock wheels you have blasted and powdercoated.  I have a buddy who really liked his aftermarket wheels and they started looking pretty shabby. He had it done at the same time he was putting new rubber on. Took a week of no driving the truck but was less than new wheels, and we both like the blacked out look better. 2c
