Midsize Trucks??

Is anyone here driving any of the new model mid size trucks? I am working on selling my full size Dodge and buying a midsize, as I don't use my full size for what it is anymore.  We went and drove a 2017 Tacoma, and thought it was alright, but after driving the Chevy I am leaning toward that a lot harder. The Tacoma was nice, but didn't have the "get up and go" that the Colorado had, and the ride was definitely nicer for sure in the Chev. I know the reputation the Taco's have (Toyota's in general) but they don't seem to have the amenities for the price they want for them. Has anyone here downsized recently and not missed the full size? Or on the other hand downsized, and regretted it big time? Unfortunately keeping both isn't an option in this scenario. It will mainly be a daily driver, with some light towing thrown in the mix (17' Alumaweld and our 2 Polaris sportsman ATV's), as well as my main hunting rig.

I've yet to feel like I need a bigger truck. I drive a Ford Ranger it fits my needs fine even though I just fit in it. My head is inches from the headliner and I can't wear my hat. Only change I would make is 4wd, I've had to cancel late season rabbit hunts due to snow.

KF, how do you like your truck? That is pretty much what I am looking at. Have you towed much with it? That is my main concern with going smaller, I've always towed my boat/quads with a full size. I've had a couple rangers, and loved them, but they were just cheap commuters and 2wd.

18ft Duckworth with a 115 Yam and kicker
20 ft Jayco Humming bird
I believe the boats at least  3500 pounds loaded
The trailer is around 3800 Lbs
my 4.0 pulls both fine and the brakes are surge on boat and electric with controller and WDH and sway on the trailer
I've pulled the trailer over the rockies and looped out to ND and back

So the diesel was overkill.  I was thinking that might be the case.  It's not very often that a Toyota could be a replacement for any diesel if the diesel was in fact necessary.
