I am surprised that this came from Jay. There appears to be a large disconnect between the contribution played by sportsmen outlined in the proclamation.

I'll guarantee that Inslee didn't author it. Would be interesting to know who twisted his arm to sign it.

I'm especially concerned about the disconnect in the proclamation that reinforces the User Pays/benifits part... which used to be a halmark of all taxing in this state. The bastiardization  of how the State Parks revives  $ through the DP comes straight to mind.

Where does it say free hunting and fishing on that day? 9/23/2017 is also the date for National Youth Hunting and Fishing Day this year, maybe this has something to do with that, not everything is sinister and evil, although I do find it odd that Inslee actually signed this. The main state sponsored event this year is at Camp Pigott in Snohomish county on that day. We will also have a local version on 9/16/2017 in East Wenatchee at the North Central Washington Gun Club that is being organized by the Wenatchee Sportsmen's Association. Both events are from 10:00am to 3:00pm and are free and should be fun with shooting and information available on all kinds of related subjects.

Its a joke. You get NOTHING for all the taxes collected and spent. State parks at least suspend the Discover Pass requirement for eleven days each year for the public. You would think hunters would get something for all the dough collected and blown each year by the state. Yeah I know some of it wasn't blown and the money assisted wildlife management over the years. This declaration is a meaningless attempt that does NOTHING for those that paid their way by a politician to gain favor while continuing to destroy hunting and fishing as we have known it for generations.

So many negative comments.  Give the governor his due: He signed the proclamation, and I think that's wonderful.  Does it mean anything at all?  Not sure, but it is nice to see this.

It is NATIONAL Hunting & Fishing Day.  Probably a proclamation just like this from all of the other states as well.  I wouldn't try hunting or fishing w/o a license on this day, could cost you some $$.

I am happy to see anything that encourages our youth to become hunters and fishermen. That said I think the motivation of losing much of those fees in the future that we pay is why there are many attempts now to increase young hunters that will provide the next generation of fees that support wildlife management, jobs and a massive bureaucracy. Less youth entering these sports means less revenues in the future. In the PC world we live in hunting has fewer and fewer  friends of the sport. Some of that resentment also spills into fishing. I won't even mention having a National Trapping Day. Could you imagine? The loss of those future revenues is what is driving these events. Is it good for our youth to be encouraged to hunt and fish? Of course it is for the right reasons and not the almighty dollars.

Yes trappers are mentioned  in the write-up but did Gov. Inslee declare that September 23 is Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Day? Nope. The PC crowd would freak.  Nor was it done on a national level. When Inslee spends revenues not from hunters, fishermen and trappers to advertise and thank us all for our dollars that have done so much for wildlife in this state then I might say you are welcome Gov. Until that happens it is all about the money. Sponsors on the national level all stand to gain financially. I have no problem with that but lets be honest about what is going on here. Its not about thanking us for our forced support.

Maybe next year they can suspend the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act Tax of 10-11 percent on ammo and firearms and the state sales tax of about 10 percent for at least a week.
