I was out yesterday and it was slow, 3 hits in 3 hours - 1 landed.  The highlight of the morning was 3 Orcas passing within 10 feet and then sounding under the boat.  They moved into the bay south of the oil docks and feed there for quite awhile.   I must admit it was a bit unnerving to have something that large so close to my 17' boat.

Family and i just crushed one grilled whole...gave the wife a sample of lightly cured roe on crostini.....life is good.

A little slower this morning but still solid fishing. Scratched out a two person limit in about four hours or so. Got all our fish straight out from Shilshole way out deep. Also tried to oil docks with no luck. 50-70 foot range was the sweet spot today. Fish were in the 6-8 pound range, which was better than last week for us.

Weather was getting a little sporty when we were leaving--be careful out there.

good to hear they are still out there . thurs it  ended  for us when we came upon a little glasply broke down just south of shipwreck, ended up turning around  and towing him back to Everett  and calling it a day, Sat we pulled out of the marina at 0 dark thirty and on a whim pointed her west and headed to eagle point and put a couple more kings in the boat for the year. hope to get back out there this week and see if there are  any silvers left after this rain.

Anyone fishing on the west side of the area, I kept 1 silver Friday afternoon on the Seattle side of Blake island.  Seemed slow for all the reports I'm reading.

Still there, not red hot but solid fishing.  Had to catch 4 to keep 2.

Yesterday was a little slow, released 3 little ones and 1 large unclipped. Still managed to get 3 in the boat and my new North Fork Composite rod worked well👍

What spoon colors/ color is everyone using. Headed out of Edmonds on sat. Last week only got 3 total in 2 days on the new to me boat.

Spoons have been picking up too many shakers so I’ve gone to my “old timers rig”.  Hoochie with a spin & glow – green or white glow – 30ish” leader – white hot spot flasher – strip of salted herring or squid on the front hook.  White has been the best color.

I’ve been using an identical colored hoochie setup to CP’s photo but with a green UV flasher instead.

If the shakers get too thick, using a single hook on the hoochie can make life easier. Just throw a few beads on in front of the hook or a small piece of surgical tubing to space it out so it is towards the back of the hoochie. Took me a long time to believe in a single hook hoochie rig, but I don’t think I miss many hookups because of it, since keepers are almost always on the back hook, anyways. Because it is much quicker to remove shakers/wilds and and doesn’t get tangled in a net on keepers, I think it helps to get lures in the water faster, thereby increasing fishing time/hookups and having a net benefit. I also end up with fewer hooks in my fingers when dealing with fish on a single hook rig.

To release wilds/shakers on a single hook rig you can just run a gaff down the line, push it into the curve of the hook, and flip it upside down. No need to hadle the fish or drop your pliers in the water.

I am using the same hoochie on 1 rod.  and a 3 inch silver horde kingfisher spoon in cookies and cream color on the other rod,  both rods running purple haze flashers . I have shortened the leader length to 30 inches on the spoon and that seemed to stop the shaker problem. the kingfisher has been way more productive than the hootchie, I also troll keeping the down rigger cable at a solid 45 degree angle or even a little more.  I am finding right now the farther out I am from the actual oil docks the better fishing it is. still keeping the lines down 50 to 70 ft in depth sometimes in 600 or more depth.

Agreed on that--better luck for us further out this year.  More keepers and fewer shakers.
