Home from the Taxidermist.

I was very excited when I got the call on Friday that this guy was ready.  He was at a Taxidermist in Great Falls and I just happened to be going through there with the first half of my Training/Hunting camp.  So a quick stop at a U Haul and he's home where he belongs.  When I spotted him there were two others just as wide and just as tall but this was the only one that had all the stickers on him.  For the biologist that say Mulies and Whitetail don't cross breed I think this guy will prove them wrong.  His body was 100% Mulie, his rack is wide open for discussion.

In that country there is a lot of hybridization going on.  I have three cousins who ranch a lot of that area and they are seeing more and more of these crosses all the time.  The mule deer have moved into areas they weren't in in the past and the whitetails likewise.

Real Nice Buck ! Back in Montana they use to call them cactus bucks sometimes they wouldnt lose there velvet and have no sack.

The bios that say that doesn't know what they are talking about. Mule deer and whitetail do cross breed.
We have killed several over the years.

we have a camp in 204. It is now really more common than not to see both species mixed. Last year we shot a mulie buck with 3 whitetail does and a whitetail buck with two mulie does. 10 years ago the mulies stayed high in the medows and the whitetail along the creek btms. but no more. Probably a direct result in denser populations and higher #'s
