muzzleloader loads

Does anybody have any good powder and bullet combos for elk hunting. I have been shooting with pyrodex pellets and powerbelt 295 hollow points. I really would like to try a loose powder with a premium bullet. I believe from what I have read my accuracy will improve and they say the powerbelt isn't that great. my gun is a tradition thumbhole northwest magnum.

I shoot 110 grain of 777 loose powder with 290 TMZ or TEZ or 250gr Hornady SST.

I shoot a traditions northwest ultra light.  Thompson center bonded shockwave 300 grain bullet.  105 grains of triple seven.  The last time I was at the range I was shooting one inch groups at 100 yards open sights.  I've killed two elk and three deer with this load and have only had to track one buck about 300 yards, everything else dropped when I hit it.

Adam do you clean with a spit patch in the field while hunting? I have the same muzzleloader. my problem is I shoot out of a clean barrel and my shot is dead on. however after the barrel is fouled it shoots 16-20 inches low. I have tried loose powder and pellets both same result. I have been told for perfect accuracy try shooting shot one, leave the fouling and use a spit patch on 3 to 4 more shots. I think with the breech plug in. after 5 shots clean the the breech. I haven't tried this but I will in the next few days. I drew a bull tag for the mt view area. thanks for your reply?

I also use a 110 grain loose tripple 7 3f with 300 grain bloodlines. If you have fouling issues try swabbing your barrel with bore butter after you clean it. I can shoot 15-20 shots before I see any kind of fouling.

I clean the hell outta mine with soap and water and then put a thin coat of bore butter on before storing.  Before I load it I'll shoot one primer off to foul up the barrel and then I'm good for about eight shots before my accuracy starts being affected.

If your second shot is 16-20 inches off what do you third fourth and fifth shots look like?

I use FFFG and find it works great in my Knight. I have to use Power Belt, because all other sabots won't fit in the barrel. I shot a 4pt white tail at 100 yards and it went down immediately.

I shoot two 60gr triple 7 pellets and Barnes TMZ 290gr with the German musket cap, fire 100% and tight groups.
