Robert Gilman ~ RIP
« on: September 17, 2017, 03:22:52 PM »

The Trapping Industry has lost an outstanding Trapper that most Trappers knew: Robert Gilman, lost his battle with cancer.  Bob made a lifelong career of being a trapper.  He was a fur trapper, had an Urban Trapping Business and was a Bear Trapper for some of the big Timber Companies in Oregon.  Bob wrote a book called: Bear Tales & Trapline Trails, it is a great read.  Bob was a good friend and was well known and will be miss by me and others that knew him.  The trapping industry has lost a great and strong fighter for trappers rights. To Judy his wife of 49 years and his family please accept our deepest condolences from all of us here at Washington State Trappers Association.  To Bob, until we meet again, happy trails.

I first met Bob on the trapline in OR. Here I was an out of Stater pulling some beaver sets after having hit an area for a couple weeks. Bob shows up to trap there. Instead of being miffed about a non-resident crowding into his area and giving me a hard time he welcomed me to OR and wished me luck.
We visited for quite a while, almost an impromptu Trappers Rendezvous complete with trapping demos but only two attendees.
Just one heck of a nice guy!

Bob was really the backbone of the Oregon Trappers Association. Not sure how you can replace someone with his contacts to politically influential people.
it is more then a personal loss for OR trappers.
