Vocal Dogs?
« on: September 28, 2017, 09:55:33 AM »
I usually don't hunt this time of year much.  But have gone out and made a few stands for fun.  I'm surprised how vocal they have been, territorial and even more so than when they are paired up for breeding.  It's as though you can call blind half asleep until you hear the massive challenge barking.  Had a dog last week come in and buddy missed at 80 yards.  I shot 2X at him when he ran off and missed.  Got on the Kiyi and at 400 yards (where I lost sight of him) he starts barking again.  Keep the Kiyi going and he turns back barking the whole way in VERY aggressive and I kill him at 100.  Big mature male by himself.  Would have been a very pretty dog in a couple months.  Here's a long arm pic.

We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

You can tell how dedicated I was to calling with my camo pattern.   :chuckle:

Sometimes a guy just needs to try a stand.

:yeah: I wiffed one the other day and it took off behind the house. I grabbed a howler and howled and got a challenge back right away. Started to kiyi and he came full bore run over the hill back into view. That was a mistake for him :chuckle: I was shocked how aggressive he was acting as well.

Dispersal time, triggers territorial instincts. The young males are all kicked out at this point and looking for a place to call home.Seasoned males are defending home ground from the young intruders. The KIYI makes it sound like a youngster is getting his butt kicked and they want to be a part of it.The YOY males pack up like as bunch of wanna be gang bangers and run around causing hate and discontent where ever they go, This is the perfect time of year to call multiple coyotes on a stand.Good looking dog.

What is a KIYI?  Thinking of getting serious about finally thinning the coyotes around the house so I can get a full nights sleep without their howling and yipping waking me up every hour or so, but I've never really gone after them.  Figured I maybe ought to start getting smart about how to do it as I've never seriously hunted them.

Works quite well. Also used when you shoot a coyote. Others may come in. Rick
