2 1/4 inches high dead center at 50 yards
« on: October 05, 2017, 08:53:25 AM »
Hey Everyone,

Shooting my Optima V2 with 300 grain Hornady SST's and 110 grains Triple Seven Loose Powder. Sighted in yesterday and got it at 2 1/4 inches high in the center at 50 yards.  I did not move to 100 as I had to get home.  Would you think that I should be pretty close to dead on at 100 yards? I'm hoping we don't have to shoot over 100 yards; but you never know!

Has anyone ever applied locktite to their dovetail fiber sights on their ML, so that they don't get loose?

Thanks!!!
If I'm not selling, I should be hunting, If I'm not hunting, I should quit!

Sounds like you know where it is at 50.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't recommend guessing and wouldn't shoot at a live target at ranges you don't know would be guessing about. :twocents:

Thanks guys for the feedback.  If I have time tomorrow, I will work to 100 yards and get it set there!

Ya I don't want to under assume a shot, anywhere, in the field especially.

I wish I would have got a ghost ring or rear peep, it seems as though through stability and finding the target would be a little faster than fiber fire sights.

Thanks again

If you're 2.25 inches high at 50 yards, you will probably be close to 4 to 5 inches higher than point of aim at 100 yards.  All depends on your mechanical offset.

This might be some where in the area - but you really will not know until you shoot it...

but @ a 100 I would bet it would be close... but after that the SS will not sink as fast...
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

You'll be fine at 100 an inch here or there won't matter with iron sights. Are you going to aim 2" low at 50 yards.
Lead em if they're running.

LOL
No I'm actually with you for sure.
I passed a shot an elk a couple of years ago because I knew I was going to hit her in the chest but not exactly where. I tried to get closer and got busted.  I went back later and pulled out the range finder. 90 yards :dunno:
I shot a cow on that tag at 60 yards. Definitely a much higher percentage shot for me with iron sights.
Lead em if they're running.
