New Crawfish spot
« on: October 05, 2017, 10:32:29 AM »
Gonna try for Crawfish in a part of the Columbia that I've never tried. I've set traps on the snake and now I have a spot that produces. But it took bumbling around. I'm thinking clean sandy bottom near rocks. But I'll be honest I have no idea what I'm doing??? I've used fresh liver as bait.

Try an overnight soak if possible, seems to work best for me.

They come out at night on the sand and even dry land, at least the rusties. I have found them in my pasture many time, 50 yards from  the creek. We have walked with flashlights at night and scouped up lots with a net. They come right up to dry land and on it. If you ever by the rv park at the dunes on moses, go there at night and walk the shore. It will amaze you how many there are. Picking up 80 to 100 is an average night in a couple hours. My guess it would be good in lots of other locations as well. It just cant be to rocky or you cant scoup them up.

If it's a hard packed sandy bottom crawdad's will dig tunnels in that.  In shallow spots you can see these tunnels, set your traps there and you will do real well.

Careful jager...seen people that after a glimpse of a true hogcraw they lose it a bit. Start stalking around pasteur bottoms, crouched low mimicing the pincers and movements of a monster craw. It gets worse from there.

I know H20. Ive been looking at traps online tonight because I don't think that one will do. I'm quite the dreamer. We used to hunt deer on the snake and set traps at night. After a couple of nights we had quite the boil. Now I'm hunting Chuckar on the Columbia, I don't know why I couldn't do the same. I hope it works out my kids think this kinda stuff is cool. I'm also thinking about trying to catch some catfish. Ill post some pics if it works.
