SW 22A frame crack
« on: October 15, 2017, 10:54:17 AM »
This is an inherited weapon fired only a few times. Wouldn't fire quite right. Guess we know why now. What should the owner do? The frame looks to be cast aluminum. Should it be stripped down and shipped to SW for repair?  Find some one whom can weld it up if possible?  Is this likely from abuse? A factory flaw? Point out the right direction or informations source for me. SW  Will be contacted.

Crack is right above the trigger through the pin hole.

I'd contact S&W about it and they will likely make it right with you.  I've only contacted S&W one time about a gun but they were great about getting it sent back to them on their dime, fixing the problem and sending it back to me.  I was the original owner of the gun I sent back but they never asked me anything about that and I'm not sure they cared if I was the original owner or not.

Smith & Wesson customer service is top notch, contact them and they will send you a pre paid shipping label and cover the cost of repairs, and return shipping.  The only problem here is that since it will likely need a new frame you will be getting a new serial number and the pistol will have to be sent to an FFL to be transferred to you.  You pay the Transfer fee, and now Uncle Sam knows you own a 22-A.
