Biggest spike elk.
« on: March 03, 2009, 08:50:37 AM »
Lets see pics of the biggest spike elk you have gotten. Here is a pic of a spike my buddy and I got a few years back. That was a tough day. We packed out two spikes in one day. Started at 0900 hrs and got back to the truck at 2300 hrs.

We packed out the first one and then when driving out of the area we spotted this one way up the mountain. After we shot it we figured we could just drag it down the hill easy enough. Not so easy. There were dead falls everywhere and it was so steep I got ran over about a dozen times(by the elk).

I was just about to ask how in the world you packed it out whole.

Nice work!!

Have never shot a spike, but saw one up in the Marble unit one year hunting that had 4 foot spikes.  They were like sabers, as big around as my forearm at the base.  Gamey told me later that the bull had been a 6x7 the year before, and regressed.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

never shot a spike. But I helped a guy load a 3x1 into his truck. It had a ton of mass and the 3 point side was like a club.

This is how I know our state is the worst in the West.  There is a forum for who shot the largest spike!!!  BTW buckmaster if you grow that beard for Montana I will shave half of it off.   :chuckle:

Here is my first and only spike from Idaho 2005.  Sorry, most of the pictures didn't turn out, so this is all I was left with...disposable camera.  I was recently married and my wife helped me haywire this Bull to the road 400 yards up hill.  This is a good way to test a marriage....
