Willapa reports?
« on: October 17, 2017, 11:47:24 AM »
Anyone hunting Willapa yet?  How are duck numbers looking there?  Am planning on a hunt there in a couple weeks.

Hunted there on the youth hunt on Oct. 28th. There were good Geese numbers at the South Unit. The ducks were out on the water and we couldn't get close enough to the groups. They had told us the numbers were very good and ducks everywhere the Monday before the hunt with all the heavy rains. There was only one successful hunter there who apparently did not know about the youth hunt but actually had his younger son along for the hunt. He bagged three Taverners. We were spoiled by the Swag from the DU, Cabella's and the WWA. Excellent Youth Event for the Seattle chapter of the WWA.

We were also there for the youth hunt and I have to agree that it is a great event for the kids. My son had a great time and we didn't even fire a shot. My wife came along (she doesn't too often) and she enjoyed the weather (65 and sunny), but we had hoped for "better" weather. We did see good numbers of ducks along the bay on the drive home (2 different groups of 200+ ducks each). It was more of a scouting trip than a hunting trip for us. I had never been in the area before and learned a lot and will go back again to hunt. Thought about heading that way this weekend, but I think we are headed east instead.

I just hunted it last weekend and did pretty well.  Mostly mallards and pintails.
