Eastern Washington Quail
« on: October 17, 2017, 01:23:51 PM »
Anyone knocking these little devils down on the eastside? Everyone tells me that numbers are up but they seem to be eluding me. Iv only been able to find one small covey and put one bird on the ground so far this season. I normally see tons in the spots I have been hunting. How far East is everyone seeing them?

Ive only been out once myself, aand once with my boy for his first hunt.  Seen good numbers where I hunt.  Definitely not a large amount, but decent.  Seen more huns this year then I have ever seen.  Maybe that's just the new area im hunting :chuckle:

Been out 3 days, decent numbers but not bunched up yet. Huns are doing well, big coveys and not too smart yet. Tough on the dogs....too dry!

I have been hunting the Columbia Basin, three times in the last 2 weeks.  Good numbers of Quail, Huns and Doves at all locations and during all three trips.

Here are the results of my last three trips to the Moses Lake area.  9 month old pup.  These trips were his first exposure to wild birds as well as his first exposure to Dove, Huns, and Qual.

tons of birds in the wenatchee valley and all my pre season duck scouting i busted multiple coveys each time. One covey had to have had 50 or more birds. That Russian olive tree looked like a firework going off when they all flushed. My dogs didn't know what the heck to do.  :chuckle:

I have been out 3 more times since opening day and have yet to see any more quail. I must be in the wrong spots. I have however seen a TON of pheasants, and that's always a good thing.
I need to find some good bird spots closer to Spokane.

I've been doing pretty well! Been out 3 times for quail and limited each time. Yesterday evening I got a bonus rooster! The yellow is only 1 years old and he's going great! Took him out by himself Monday evening. The black is his mother, she's something else! We also got a limit of wild roosters last weekend on the opener.

I'm headed out tomorrow morning.  Going for the trifecta tomorrow.  Turkey, ducks and upland.  All in one day.  Anyone want to go?

Went 1 if 3 today.  No turkey, no ducks and only 2 quail.  Had some stuff come up last minute, so didn't even go after turkey this morning.  Very few ducks we seen today, still need the migrators to start coming in.  Found one covey of huns and a decent number of quail.  Couldn't hit anything today, my barrel must be bent  :chuckle::chuckle:

Off to elk camp tomorrow morning.  Once that's done, I'll concentrate on the birds a bit more.

Yes my barrel has been known to be bent from time to time. Good job getting out there. You saw and shot more birds than I did sitting at my desk:)

Well I ended up running into some Quail up north while I was deer hunting. Luckily I brought the shotgun along and was able to get 4 birds! To bad I didn't have my dog.
