Help with youth hunt preferably in Skok Unit.
« on: October 22, 2017, 08:01:02 PM »
Just got back from a long and wet day in the wilds with my son, and we need help.

I am a newer hunter myself, and the only place I have hunted deer on west side is in Skok unit, and in particular Green Diamond land.  I have hunted this area for a few years and there are always does around, and if not seeing anything on hoof, at least there is sign, so it is a matter of time.  We applied for and my son drew a Doe tag for that unit.  I thought it would be great, hunt a familiar area, get him his 1st deer since it is usually lousy with does.

The area I hunted the last 2 years seems like a ghost-town now.  We spent the day out there today slogging thru the rain and did not see a single sign or even cut a visible gametrail.  One upside is very few other rigs on the road, but at the same time maybe that is because the local know there are less/few deer in the area?  We live in Tacoma, so no chance to hunt or scout the unit during the week so next Sat/Sunday are it for the season.

I am hoping that someone knows of better area in the unit, or land owners in the area that that would be interested/willing to let a youth hunter take a doe (or any deer they wish removed since it is anybuck unit) on their property?  Any help at all would be appreciated.  Preferring to stick to Skok since he can shoot anything he sees given his tag&permit, but I will gladly entertain info on other units/spots if someone has a good lead suitable for daytrips form Tacoma.

Feel free to answer by PM if you wish to keep information confidential, I know how to keep my yapper shut and not share other people's hunting spots, just looking to get my son an animal.

Thanks in advance.
