Anyone else have this watch and have to manually set the altimeter all the time?

I don't have a Suunto but have a G Shock with altimeter.  The watch uses barametric pressure to get the elevation which is different especially since the watch is on your wrist.  The instructions for the watch says all this.

I dont have the traverse, but have similar issues with the Core. Overall a good watch, but I found that I really couldnt rely on the altimeter function for much. I also have a G shock protrek, it holds much more reliably.

Completely normal.  These watches use barometric pressure to determine altitude so the watch does not necessarily know if the change in pressure is due to a change in altitude or a low pressure system moving in, unless you set the profile.  Use the barometer profile if your activity doesn't involve elevation changes, switch to the altimeter profile if your activity involves elevation changes, or use it in automatic and the watch will automatically switch between profiles depending on the rate of pressure change.

Thanks. I understand its working off the barometer.  Ill look up this profile deal. Seems like going off of GPS for elevation would have been better.
