Camera repair
« on: February 13, 2009, 05:29:22 PM »
I got a camera in the mail today, a W90 that does not work. It works now. Keith, When you worked out the flash unit, you unplugged a small white cable that goes from the control board to the main board. I don't see how you got the flash assembly out without removing the lens assembly first. Your camera will be in the mail Monday. I will post pictures of Keith's camera and explain how to make repairs to these cameras later this week-end.

Thanks Bob. I removed the flash board by unplugging it but it was a tight fit pullung it out as the flash boards capacitor want to hang on one of the tabs holding the power board down.

Keith,  I don't have a good main board for your camera. When the camera flash does not work, it can be a problem with the main board, and it is not always a problem in the flash unit.  I will post some pictures showing how to remove the lens assembly, the flash assembly and the main board. The LCD and control board are connected by a small trace cable and must be replaced as a unit. It is cheaper to buy a parts camera than it is to buy just one part, and then you have extra parts left over for future use. Keith, I would start watching for a parts camera with a bad or busted LCD. Usually everything else works on these cameras. I will post pics that show how t make these repairs soon, and I will get your camera on the way back to you. Bob

Hey bob, I exchanged the lens on my 80 for a lens from a 90 and it does not work. When I hit the power button it just blinks green for a second and then nothing. Are these parts not compatible with each other?

Is there any way to fix a broken latch on a ribbon cable connector? Some kind of non-conductive glue or something to hold the ribbon cable in place without the latch???  :bash:

javman, I don't see how you can repair that latch. You will have to replace the board. What board and which camera? I might have the part.

I am working on Keith's camera and will post pics of that repair.
