Moutrie D40?
« on: March 05, 2009, 12:36:38 AM »
Hey guys back for some more info, anyone have experience with the Moultire D40, i was looking around and am able to purchase one from amazon for $60 flat, now i know that is a good price but i dont want to buy something that isn't going to work, regular is somewhere around $100 and amazon offers it for $90. I've seen good and bad reviews, but im not sure what to believe so i thought i'd ask guys that really know...any advice is helpful thanks! Oh yah does this trail cam have a slot where i can stick in my own memory card so it can take more pictures? Thanks Swiftkid ----  .220
Ruger brought back the .220, i just shoot it.

It doesn't take qulity pictures. And has a slow trigger speed. I would save and spend $200.00 Cuddeback Capture or Moultrie I-40. You will kick yourself down the road.

I had one until it was stolen.  It took OK pictures and when it was stolen I was only out $70.

NOT QUALITY BUT WILL WORK...IF YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT IS JUST OK, BUT WILL LAST THIS YOUR CAMERA....BUT THINK ABOUT IT.......

FOR 60 BUCKS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.....A 60 DOLLAR CAMERA....

BUT IF YOU WANT TO THROW IT UP SOMEWHERE, FORGET IT, AND CROSS YOUR FINGERS THAT IT DOESNT GET STOLEN THEN THIS MIGHT BE YOUR CAMERA.....

BUT I HAVE TAKEN PICTURES WITH THIS CAMERA....IT IS OK.........

WORTH 60 BUCKS....NOT 100.....

I like mine.  And yes, it takes a memory card.  Like some others said though, there are a lot better cameras, picture-wise.  I bought the inexpensive model (got the D40 on sale for $90) just in case it got stolen.  I don't really care about the picture quality anyway.  Just what's out there.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I got one for Christmas and have had no problems I just put a solar panel on it this last weekend. Like they said pictures are not great but not that bad either. Night has a regular flash so you will get color night pics. for 60 bucks I would probably buy it.

Ok I'll try this again!!
I just bought the Moultrie 5.0 from Cabelas, and I have had it out in the woods close to my house for a week now. Here are a few of the pics I got already.
I am happy to say the Camera works great so far, and I think it's a good choice for $229.00

They are great for baits, not trail use. batt life is horrible, the I-40 will make up for it in cost in just batt life in 1 year

Good information, Fellas. Which of these units takes better night pics? I was leaning toward the I-40 for my next camera.

Your limited to the range of the flash in the d40, and if its foggy or raining it illuminates evrything and washes the shot out. I prefer the I 40, its black and white, but the same image always.I dont know if your wanting this as a serious huntiing tool, or you like good pics? the I 40 is mostly black and white, if its cloudy or shaded the cam will stay in the black and white mode. here is a image at night with the I 40

Thanks. Yeah, I'm coming off of only using Homebrew cameras, so I'm using them as hunting/general critter ID and time stamp tools.

Say, is that footer stamp information editable? Are there other data options?
