Wanted: taxidermist/ tanner recommendation in SW WA
« on: December 30, 2017, 09:33:31 PM »
Like the title states, looking for recommendations for someone to tan the hide from my daughter's elk this last season. It was her first elk and it means a lot to both of us, just want to take it somewhere that will get it done and back to me. Not lost and mis-cared for. Havent brought anything to a taxidermist in years. Looking to keep it close to the Vancouver/PDX area.

There have been tannery issues in this area for years it seems. Good luck. I don’t have a recommendation for you but someone else might. Worst case hit up a couple of the other taxi’s on he forum and see if they have a recommendation for you for a tannery.

Most taxi's don't tan, that Im aware of anyway. They ship them, and I think the best tanneries are out of state and are one of the reasons mounts take up to a year... Only one way to find out...ask a taxi.

I would take it to Artistic Taxidermy in Portland. Just like others have said, almost all the local Taxi's send their hides out to a tannery out of state. Artistic send their hides out in batches.
There's a couple other Taxidermy shops local I just haven't used them. Bullseye Taxidermy in Woodland did all his own tanning but is no longer in business.
