Christensen arms Mesa
« on: January 29, 2018, 08:11:39 PM »
Ok HW i am currently in the market for a new hunting rifle and I have narrowed it down to I believe a few.  I am wondering if anyone on here has the MESA rifle and what you think about it.  Right now I am trying to decide between the Christensen Mesa and the browning X-bolt hell’s canyon speed.

Please provide your honest input so I can read what everyone has to say.

In case it makes a difference I plan on getting one chambered in 300 Win Mag.

Jeremy

Are you looking at those because that is your price range?  Or what is your max price?  Weight an issue?

Browning X-Bolt, Western Hunter. Same set up as the Hell's Canyon only difference is non fluted, black finish.

Factory ammo, 28 Nosler. My cost $670.00 out the door.

100 yards. Hard to beat! They shoot.

Yes mostly because that is my price range.  I told the wife I wouldn’t spend anymore than 1500 +\- a couple hundred.   😀

How is the 28 Nosler at distances for elk hunting.  I have a 270 but am trying to go bigger caliber as I am going to start deer/elk hunting out of state and want a rifle that will handle both.

You mentioned you were looking for a .300 Win Mag, great chambering. If I had to choose one chambering to do it all. The .300 Win would be my first pick. Followed up closely by the .375 H&H.

I have the x-bolt hells canyon speed in 7mm and love it. Smooth shooting, lightweight and accurate gun.

I have the Mesa in 300 Win Mag. I just had it at the range Thursday doing load development. I have exactly 100 rounds thru it. Great shooter. I have a Vortex Razor HDLH on it. Definately sub MOA. Action is smooth, and trigger is great. If you are serious about that rifle, I may be interested in parting ways with it. I like it, I just prefer the Mauser/M70 action, and I'm thinking about going to a Montana Rifle Co or something along that action  line.

I have the X-bolt Long Range stainless (since discontinued and replaced with the "Hells Canyon Long Range" line).  Mine is in 7mmRM.   300 WM, 28 Nosler, 7mmRM, 300WSM all great calibers for anything in lower 48.   These X-Bolts really are accurate guns for the money.
