Hoyt limb splinter (update)

Pulled bow back heard a crack then seen this might be hard to see.09 alphamax 32.
I'm going to go get it checked out before shooting again but wondering if anyone has had this issue and if you had to replace limb

I had a thin splinter on the upper limb of my Hoyt Alphamax 35.  I used a very sharp knife to gently pare away the splinter a little bit behind the point of attachment, and then sanded with 120 grit sandpaper to ensure a smooth surface.  Check for any further splitting with a fingernail along the surface.  I then used clear nail polish on the sanded surface.  I haven't had any issues since, and the bow shoots fine.  The guys at Spokane Valley Archery told me this happens quite a bit with the "sharp-edged" Hoyt limbs.

I've had 4 or 5 of those on my vector. Clipped and sanded and never an issue. This is common with maxxis, alphamax, vector, and spyder models. Not sure why it took them so long to figure it out.

That said I would get it checked out, hoyt replaces splintered limbs under warranty as long as it wasn't obvious abuse. The limbs come in a set, so if the dealer tries to replace only one limb, or says it's not covered under warranty, then find another dealer.

Thanks guys that's what I've been reading to do about the splinters.
I'm going to run to greatnorthwest archery tomorrow and have them take a look at it.
 I'm the second owner so I'm afraid I'm out of luck about the warranty

It is a common issue. One of my Hoyt’s did it. Doug will tell you the same as what is posted above..

My Hoyt charger did the same thing. The guys at van vinkles cut the splinter off sanded and added a little super glue. Told me to bring it in to warranty after season.

had a mission bow do that, when I took it into the archery shop they were shocked that I was still shooting it and getting accuracy with it, mission sent new limbs and I got them put on with no cost. one thing they were saying is for one the limb could blow up and two it could effect accuracy because they need to stay as one solid laminated piece. made sense to me but I don't know.

Ran to greatnorthwest archery and Doug said like others on here clip it and sand it

Hoyt limbs are tough overall but do wish they would machine a radius on the edges of their limbs.  It only takes a tiny nick on the square edges to start a sliver.  I agree with an earlier post, carfully cut the sliver and sand until smooth.
