If I do...it will be my Ruger BlackHawk 4-5/8 in .45 Colt.  With a 250 grain Keith at 1100 fps that will put paid to any critter that is a problem.

my go to gun for years was the samething with the 7 1\2 barrel great gun. I will someday own one with the 4 5/8" for outdoor carry I think your about as well armed as a man can be.

After a small problem with feral dogs a few years ago...I was armed with a single shot .410 and a .22 revolver...that was a BAD deal.  I've carried the .45 Ruger ever since if i didnt have a repeating rifle and sometimes even then.

I will just keep carrying my Beretta .40 cal. The clips fit perfectly i the wing straps of my backpack.

Blackhawks do not exactly fit his criteria of "light weight", but I Carry one as well in 5 1/2" loaded literally for bear with .45 long colt +p's...300 grain corbon's at 1300fps.  1126 ft/lbs.  big boom, big hole, more horse power than a .44 mag.  Just hang on or the front sight may leave a dent in your forehead.  The extra load on my hip takes the weight off my mind.

Nope...Lightweight they are not...but like you say...that weight on the hip is MIGHTY reassuring.  I tried some of the Gopher Barouque loads like those you mentioned and went back to my Keiths. 
Those sit on a stout charge of 2400 and have never let me down.  Took a near deer with one once...penetrated from the brisket, through the sternum, heart, gut, L ham and exited out the back of the ham....I figure that is enough penetration.  Also my BH has a steel gripframe and ejector housing...its hefty!

ANd I dont get a third eye!

I would make sure whatever you choose it has at least a 4in bbl so that it is legal for open carry in the field. I never carry a handgun out hunting unless it is legal for hunting itself just less hassle in the event that an official happens to stop me.

If its bow and ML season and its now legal to carry a sidearm, caliber and size will not matter in the least to any enforcment? Even if it's 4 or more you still cannont use it to hunt or dispatch during these seasons.

Legal for open carry in the field? All guns are legal for open carry in the field? There also legal to conceal in the field. Without a permit. You mean legal for hunting with I presume??? And in that case, see above.

Beside's, mines always under the coat or SOB if its hot. Mr. enforcment wont even know its there.

Most of the guns here dont fall into the lightweight catagory. If you want true high power and lightweight, you'll opt for a lightweight Ti model in 357, 41, 44 or 45 LC loaded hot. Even a 40 cal is pretty good for creatures under 400 pounds. Hot loads and light guns dont always mix. As well, I've locked up Taurus's with loads that shot fine out of my Super redhawk. Even warped a cylinder.

If your gonna load on the hotside, quality and strength count.

I did not think it was legal to carry a pistol consealed under any circumstances without a CPL ? Why not have something legal for all seasons so that there is no question in anyone's mind as to wether it's legal or not ? I certainly would not want to get caught with a consealed pistol without a cpl .

Its a RCW. On your way to or from the range, hunting, fishing or camping or while doing that activity...

Exceptions to restrictions on carrying firearms. 

The provisions of RCW 9.41.050 shall not apply to:

     (1) Marshals, sheriffs, prison or jail wardens or their deputies, or other law enforcement officers of this state or another state;

     (2) Members of the armed forces of the United States or of the national guard or organized reserves, when on duty;

     (3) Officers or employees of the United States duly authorized to carry a concealed pistol;

     (4) Any person engaged in the business of manufacturing, repairing, or dealing in firearms, or the agent or representative of the person, if possessing, using, or carrying a pistol in the usual or ordinary course of the business;

     (5) Regularly enrolled members of any organization duly authorized to purchase or receive pistols from the United States or from this state;

     (6) Regularly enrolled members of clubs organized for the purpose of target shooting, when those members are at or are going to or from their places of target practice;

     (7) Regularly enrolled members of clubs organized for the purpose of modern and antique firearm collecting, when those members are at or are going to or from their collector's gun shows and exhibits;

     ( Any person engaging in a lawful outdoor recreational activity such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, or horseback riding, only if, considering all of the attendant circumstances, including but not limited to whether the person has a valid hunting or fishing license, it is reasonable to conclude that the person is participating in lawful outdoor activities or is traveling to or from a legitimate outdoor recreation area;

     (9) Any person while carrying a pistol unloaded and in a closed opaque case or secure wrapper; or

     (10) Law enforcement officers retired for service or physical disabilities, except for those law enforcement officers retired because of mental or stress-related disabilities. This subsection applies only to a retired officer who has: (a) Obtained documentation from a law enforcement agency within Washington state from which he or she retired that is signed by the agency's chief law enforcement officer and that states that the retired officer was retired for service or physical disability; and (b) not been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity of a crime making him or her ineligible for a concealed pistol license.
