exposed to elements
« on: April 20, 2018, 02:56:46 PM »
Just looked at the regs and not only are 209's now legal it looks like we no longer have to have the ignition exposed to the elements.

I'm buying a new gun.

Lead em if they're running.

No change to effective range. Lost a few deer due to the elements. Time to update my Knights

      ;)  Got it.

No, don't even really want a new one. Don't think I'll be hunting with it this year anyway. But I'll go ahead and order the new breech plug and try it out with the 209's and some of that Blackhorn powder to see how it does. Should've put in for multi-season deer I guess.

My gun doesn’t have a breech plug replacement option. Guess I could keep it for Idaho maybe someday and buy a new one for WA

Truthfully - you really do not need a 209 - O wait unless you want to shoot BH
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

I griped and complained about the new proposals. People griped back and told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I listened and took it to heart. Currently shopping for a .50 cal barrel for my Encore.  I love shooting that thing too much to not at least explore that option.

I was in the market for a new ML a few months ago and found a stainless pre encore with the .50 and 300 WM barrels for a steal.  The action has been worked over and has a 2lb5oz trigger with no creep.

That's what I am looking at with the 209 allowance.

Careful. It’s an addiction.

I know.  I have been looking for a while and already have my eye on three or four barrels.  The other nice part about the 209 allowance is the possibility of getting my kids out in dryer warmer weather without having to worry about cold wet kids 10-15 minutes in.

Good on you for getting your kids out there rain or shine

I have two knight disc extremes all I need to do is screw in the bare primer breech plugs and the appropriate bolts which I have and head to the range.
I still might use my custom side lock with the fast twist barrel and #11 percussion caps.  :)

LOL....I get it...MOST RESPECT TO YOU!!!    Gladly buy you a beer or soda!!   Someone who has the sack to admit he disagreed but then jumped on the bandwagon as it passed by instead of walking in the dust.   Me...I think technology is going to be a huge hindrance to what we all love.....will gladly walk in the dust on some things....but not everything.

Musket caps were difficult to find when I wanted them so I bought 400, guess I'll be waiting a while to make the cross over.

My traditions vortex Northwest magnum will not shoot the modern primers. Apparently the firing pin is not designed for modern primers. O well I've never had a miss fire yet with musket caps.
