looking for lab pup - breeder suggestions?
« on: March 12, 2009, 08:00:15 PM »
I'm looking for a quality lab pup... female. Anyone got any suggestions on breeders? I'm familiar with a few here in Washington, but I'm open for any recommendations from anyone's experiences. Maybe some of you even know someone with pups for sale. I'd like one that will be a super family pet for our 7 & 8 year old kids... decent hunting lines would be great because I do intend to hunt with her... primarily waterfowl. I just want to avoid the "show dog" strain of lab out there.  We've been looking for awhile and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know how set you are on a breeder, but my lab is due April 7 with pups. Her and the sire are papered from hunting lines. I upland hunt with her very hard, and she has a natural pointing instinct. This doesn't help for waterfowl, I know, but here are some pics of her if you are interested.

Awesome hunting dogs and a wonderful lady to deal with.  We just got our new choco "Molson" from her. I highly recommend.

Another comment on Bayview labs.  Being the English style,  They have a real blocky head, male and female with short noses.  Im just fond of that look.  She is really good and can help you get the type of dog you want via hunting/family and the temperment of them.

Thanks for all the help, fellas. Jerry at Arlington is one heckuva nice guy (thanks, Merlo).
I think I'm close to finding a pup... but always open to anyone's input.

Not to Hijack, but since it is along the same lines.........

Does anybody know where one could find a good lab in the Spokane/Pullman/North Idaho area.

I am looking hard into getting a female black lab this spring. I would like a combo waterfowl/upland dog with pointing tendancies.

I got my lan a little over a year ago from Cecilie @ Cougar Creek Labs in Arlington.  http://cougarcreeklabs.com/   She's a great dog, very friendly and patient.  This last season was her first bird season, she was still a pup.  She hunted like a fiend, and found birds every time out.  Even made blind retrieves on ducks she didn't see shot.   couldn't be happier.

If you plan to work with a reputable trainer for your dog, it might be worth finding your trainer first.  Its a no brainer to include them in the loop as you make your decision.  Especially true if you're gonna layout big dough for the pup and training.
