Softtopper canopies, any experience with them?
« on: June 08, 2018, 06:00:03 AM »
Thinking of buying one for my full size bed,  but at 980 delivered figured I'd ask for some opinions first.   My needs are a canopy i can take on and off solo,  and store easily.   I sold my heavy glass topper last night.   Any experiences with them?

I had a soft Tonneau cover, worked great right up until it ripped, LOL.
I currently have a Bak-flip cover and love it.

i've got a soft topper canopy on my tacoma (well it's currently in the garage hanging on the wall) but I love it and will own one for the next truck I have.
People will say the con's are it's not as secure as a fiberglass canopy.
well, if someone wants to break into your fiberglass canopy, theyll just break the glass and youll be left with a canopy to fix as well as missing your stuff.
I've been super happy with my soft topper, love that I can take it on and off myself (in a matter of minutes), love that it can fold down if you need the bed space for a taller item, love that it can store hanging on a wall if you take it off, and love that it adds barely any weight to the back of your truck.
in my opinion it's a super versatile piece that I wish i would have purchased sooner.

Definitely not as secure as a fiberglass top but are way easier to take off. They look good too!

I had one for 7 years, they're not watertight or a hard canopy, but work well for what they are

agreed.
but if needs are a canopy that is easily stored, and taken on and off by 1 person (anywhere, not just in a garage with a hoist system).  they can't be beat, in my opinion.

I had a Softtopper on my 2016 Tundra it leaked in heavy rain and sunny days the material would heat up stretch and flap if I was going over 55mph.

I've got one that I take on/off my Tundra.  For what it is, and what I need it for, it's perfect.  I don't use mine for security, I use it to keep stuff covered and dry when I have to haul a cab full of people and gear, the rest of the year it sits in the garage.  It literally goes on and off in minutes and I've had mine on while traveling through the pass with some ridiculous wind gusts and it's been rock solid.

The seam sealer they give you with the top is pretty much worthless.  I sealed all the seams on the outside with Freesole and only get a little bit of leakage in the front corners, which is unavoidable due to the design.
