Selkirk Elk???
« on: June 26, 2018, 10:23:28 PM »
Another year passes without drawing the EA WA bull tag. Looking for over the counter  opportunities to hunt branch antler bulls in EA WA, I understand that there are some elk in the Selkirk unit. 5 years ago my father, 75 then, drew the Selkirk Moose tag, while on that hunt we came across some significant elk sign. I’m in my lay 40’s and looking to tag my first archery branch antler bull. I have harvested cows & spikes just haven’t had the opportunity to let the arrow fly on a branch antler bull. any information or suggestions  on the Selkirk elk herd would be appreciated.

Thanks...👍

Good luck getting specifics on where the elk are. Go to where you saw the elk sigh before and start scouting. Good luck

Surprising there is still a general season for an east side hunt. Wdfw must believe there are a lot of elk in the unit. Anyone have any pics of the quality of bulls taken out of the unit?

I live north of Spokane. My spots are now over run with wolves! Best bet is hunt the fringe farms if you know some one. If not then good luck! And burn boot leather! Small quiet herds hiding from the wolves. They are where you find em.

Surprising there’s a general hunt ? Quite a few elk if you know where. You obviously haven’t set foot in the units.. elk escapabilty is very high due to extreme cover and rugged terrain. Wdfw doesn’t even know how many elk are actually in NE WA. Every year some huge bulls are taken and not advertised. Info on elk in these units are tight lipped

Ya, you probably aren’t going to get the intel you want on this one. Kids or husbands don’t even tell their mothers or wives where these babies are.   They are spreading out though so you might wander into one.

:yeah: I wouldn't even tell my wife exactly where I was for half those spots :chuckle:

Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

My wife has a dis-abled antlerless elk tag in that area. What are the odds of filling that tag?

Not likely unless you  befriend someone with them in the field everynight.  There are some that go ag much like the North Benders.

Yep your right! I obviously haven’t set foot in those areas. Thought it was pretty obvious by my question though :chuckle:
