Catfish,,,
« on: March 15, 2009, 06:03:15 PM »
I'm going to be doing more freshwater fishing this year, and hoping to get into some catfish. I generaly fish Silver Lake (off Mt. HWY) for the brown bullheads, but this year I'm thinking of hitting Hearts Lake a bit.( both lakes are close to home). I haven't had a good 'ol catfish feed in a long time

I have only done catfish in Texas. Nothing like waking up in the morning to check a trout line...

I am only 15-20 minutes away from Harts Lake and have never fished it.  I would love to find a good place to catch channel or blue cats!  I'm not real fond of bull heads.   My Aunt from Alabama owns a catfish farm and brings us fillets caught the morning that she flies out here.  They hit the grease within an hour of her arriving at my Mom and Dad's house.  Mmmm...  Nothing better than fresh channel cats and hushpuppies!

I was thinking of mixing up a batch of stink bait for the channels, and it should work on the bullheads too.

Rasbo, thanks but that is a little too far for me to travel for cats.  It sounds like a cool place to fish though.

We used to use chicken gizzards and ivory soap.  Ivory soap mainly on trot lines.  I wish that jug fishing for cats was legal here.  It is pretty fun to have a dozen milk jugs making there way across a pond or lake.

I was looking in the fishing regs. and couldn't find anything on Hearts lake. I thought that there was a slot limit on cats, and bass, but found nothing. I assume that it opens the last week-end in April :dunno:
