Elk clothing

Now that I have a trusty muzzleloader, does that mean I have to put on that scent killer clothing from head to toe?
That can get pricey.

I'm no elk hunter, but I imagine as far as scent control, it's not much different than deer.  You don't need all that Scent-lok clothing.  Guys did it for years before it.  Watch your wind is the biggest thing.  Maybe even get some of the scent eliminating spray and detergent.

im a smoker{not bragging} I dont use anything,I believe  they smell you if the wind is right.I take bear and bobs at very close ranges as close as at the end of my foot.Ive had bears stare at me just feet away and take them,its all about wind,I leave the gimmicks to the guys that have more money to burn than I do,but if it makes ya feel better go for it.I call deer in within feet last one blew snot on the back of me,I could see my partners belly moving he was laughing so hard inside,he could see her a few feet behind me

I am with Rasbo, I am a smoker and I have been for the last 25 years. I have taken everything from a grouse to a grizzly. If the wind is right you do not need the scent blocker.

Some people swear by it and I watch it all the time on TV, they get out of their truck walk 75 yards and sit in a tree stand.

You hunt the mountains around here and you dont sweat and stink like a human within the first hour then you have a wonderful gift.

just watch the wind direction and you will be fine.

even with all the scentloc clothing, all it takes is a swirling wind and bad breath to send an animal on the run.

The expensive clothing for me has been more about staying dry on the west side of the state where we get pissed on most every muzzleloader season than it has been scent lok.

It is alot about the wind, as Rasbo has said. I have been with feet of bear and I was in plain view...the bear paid no attention while he was standing up...the wind was blowing in the right direction.

Elk, same way. Numerous times I have been within an arms lenght of elk...if the wind is right, it is no worries. Just use common sense...try to stay as scent free as you can and pick up something extra if you feel like it (scent block).

But mainly..pay attention to the wind.

Took me 2 hours to find my tie for an interview.   

Can tell you where exactly in the closet my waterproof camo jacket or parka is.

So if there is no wind or if the wind is swirling, I need not worry about being detected?
If the wind is swirling, I presume the elk will be alerted, but will not have a clue as to direction.
I know I will need lots of rain gear so I can sit in the pouring rain and wait for an elk to come by.

If the wind is swirling best thing to do in my opinion is to back off and watch from a distance, you also need to watch thermals if there is no wind it will give you away also.

As for sitting in the rain waiting for an elk to come by, I guess it is a technique you can use, I myself like to walk and move.

x2 on the thermals mid morning they will push back and forth,down when its cool up as it warms,when its swirling,Ive had them wind me.They didnt hang around left the state
