65mm Spotter vs. 15x56
« on: July 27, 2018, 02:39:15 PM »
Plain and simple really....I’m contemplating one or the other. Anyone running 15’s over a spotter?
Looking at the maven 15’s, maybe vortex if I can find anyone who has them in stock. The spotter would be the new improved vortex viper 65mm.

I have both, but 95% of the time I'm using the 15's.  The spotter only comes out when I need to zoom in for detail (e.g., trying to gauge size) or for really long distances.  Out to a mile and a half or so, the 15's are way better for glassing.

Out of curiosity, are you running an 8x or 10x bino in addition to the 15s?  My current setup is a set of 10x42 Leupolds on a tripod for finding critters or shadows that look a lot like critters, then switching to the spotter to get a closer look.

My (very cheap) spotter needs an upgrade though as it doesn't give me much more detail than my (very nice) binos.  I thought about getting a set of 15x binos, but the weight and $$$$$$ makes me think I'll stick with the spotters.
"master" hunter - still a noob.

I have a very nice 20-60x60 spotter. I'd love to trade it for some 15s. My partner always packs a 20-60x80 unless we are elk hunting so I think it would be a definite compliment to run 15s

I only run 10x42

I’m going to drop some coin on some bigger glass, I’m just trying to figure out which would suit me best

I have a set maven b4 15x56. So far so good. Also have the c1. Also I think Maven is having a sale on the B4s right now of $250 off.
