I have some range time coming up with a 375 ruger and big hammers...should be interesting

My .375 Ultra’s have me covered for the long stuff. .375 Ultra, bedded into a Mountain Rifle stock. I recall a couple local clowns calling Accubond’s “Accubomb’s”. Furthest from the truth. Picture perfect performance there.👍

Yeah but the 375 isnt exactly a fast handling brush rifle  I'm really excited for the brush guns with reach...I think it will be an ideal hunting rifle

I know the .416 Ruger is well capable of 400 yards and the .375 further.

I have been looking at the .416,mainly because it fills one of my last gaps and the .416 is just sexy!  I had my eye on a well used .416 Rem. Years ago in a Sako 75 and after fondling it for 6 months it sold the day before I came in to buy it. Have still always wanted a 416 and the Ruger is a good one IMO.

My favorite “brush gun” is my 375 HH. if I know my shots will be closer that’s typically what I grab

Absolutely love the .375 H&H. My first 6 Elk were with a H&H and a 300gr Hornady BTSP. Crushed them, all shot were from 40-80 yards in the timber.

I killed my Moose and a mule deer with the 300 btsp. They just didn’t shot a shot well as partitions or accubonds in my gun. I also shoot a good amount off 270 grain speers because they are cheap.

The 300gr Barnes TSX has a reputation for speed, accuracy and terminal pefromace. For across the board shots. For the in close to mid range heavy hitter shots. I would opt for a 400gr “Sledge Hammer”. Not to over look the 400gr Nosler Partition.

I bet Steve could build you a 300ish grain hammer hunter pretty easily....might be worth looking into

I may do that. I can’t stand Barnes bullets.

The big miss with the 416 Ruger is trying to get factory Ammunition velocity out of that round and barrel length. A velocity of around 2175 with a 400gn bullet will drop anything on the planet and is accurate due to reasonable recoil.

I love the 375 Ruger but I’d have to go 416. I’ve already talked Steve about a 300-325gr Sledgehammer for a short action 416 idea I had and he said it should be pretty easy to make happen.

Since you’re only looking for 300 yards or so the 416 is perfect. I imagine you could get at least .75 MOA with one of the 20” Rugers with a low powered scope using good bullets. If you can’t track down a monometal bullet that works for you there’s always Hawk and Northfork bullets. I used those in a 416 Rigby years ago with excellent results. 

You’re not thinking of one of the new guide guns are you? Those things are an abomination! Nothing screams “Future scope eye victim” like one of those new guide guns with the removable brake and that horrific rainbow laminate stock. You'd just look like a guy who’s trying to over compensate for owning a Creedmoor by buying a “dangerous game” rifle. Maybe you can mount a Vortex scope on there too.

Hmmmmm. How about one of the Ruger stainless/Hogue 20” Alaskan’s in .416 Ruger. The model they don’t make anymore. Frost it with a Leupold 2.5-8 and the kicker! Trade a 6.5 Creeedmoor for the rifle, rings, dies, 400 plus bullet, 300 pieces of brass and it’s already a proven half moa big bore.

Will that work? YES! YES! And YES! Bye, bye Creedmoor.👍 Talked today with Hammer Bullets, they said they would work me up a 300gr and we would go from there. The rifles accuracy load right now is with the 300gr TSX.

I should have known you'd have more class than to get one of the new laminate stock models. 

I have my 375 Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan set up with the same optic in a set of Warne QR rings and it's held zero for about 10 years and probably close to 1000 rounds so far. It's as good a mount system as you can get!
