It is pretty awesome to get that close. When I was in Alaska I had a cow and a calf (I guess that's what you call them) circle my skiff at less than 6 feet away. I could see them swimming about 10 feet under the boat and it scared the living hell out of me especially when I was by myself and 6-7 miles from the lodge. I stopped fishing for halibut until they left for fear that they would come after it if I hooked one.

We used to see them every once in awhile around the Narrows. Haven't in a long time though. I wish they would stick around and eat up all the seals
