Play time.😊 For some reason I am really looking forward to shooting this rifle. Still at the FFL, he’s on the range. So I have to wait until he gets back home to do the paperwork.

Spoke with the owner in New Jersey for 3 hours or so. He said it was scary accurate.

The add:

I’ll shoot what came with the rifle, until my 300gr Hammers show up. 300gr TSX, 350gr TSX, 400gr Nosler Partition and Speer 350gr Mag-Tips.

Already have powders on hand for it. H4350, RL15, BL-C2, Varget, TAC, Win760, RL17, Varget.

.270 WSM case (Center)
400gr  Nosler Partition (Left)
350gr Barnes TSX (Right)

Here is a 300 yard group the prior owner shot with it using the Barnes 300gr TSX over H4350. Definitely MOA of Bear.

It’s still on the small side of the big bore line up.

Left to right.

500 Jeffery, 450/.375 Ultra Magnum, 450 Ackley Magnum, .416 Ruger, .416 Taylor.

I haven’t had time for a formal range session. Around here we just make it work. My brother and I were checking the fence and some cattle on the ranch. Decided to play with the .416 Ruger a bit, got a point blank zero. Backed off to 100 yards , shooting off the corner of a ranch truck.

350gr Barnes TSX on top of 83gr of H4350 with a standard federal 215 Mag primer.

First 100 yard 3 shot group. MOA of Black Bear, I’m good for now.  Picked up some 2000-MR powder for the 400gr Nosler Partitions. I’ve never loaded with the powder. From what I have found, it gives top velocities with the heavies.

I do need to get some quick release Warne rings and a different scope. I just made it work with what I had for the time being. My thoughts for a ideal scope would be a Leupold 2.5-8 with a elevation turret.👍

Hey now, those USPS Priority Mail boxes are for official use only!

I've been playing with a Leupld S1 dial on my 2.5-8x32 on the 375 Ruger with good results. I don't think they make the 2.5-8 with a CDS option, but I like to buy the CDS model scopes and then just use the MOA dial that comes on there. They're very low profile compared to a lot of other MOA dials.

I may give a peep sight a try. Most of my bears at shot at well under 100 yards. A scope isn’t a must.

I have had good luck with Alaskan Arms LLC quick detach rings on my 375 Ruger Guide Gun with the Leupold VX3 2.5-8X36mm returning to same POA. I also have a New England Custom quick detach Ghost Ring sight for the Guide Gun too.

Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

I've never seen that before. I may have to look into one of those for my 375.

I have one I have used on my 77/44 and like it, well made and mounts solidly in the proprietary Ruger base.

I pulled the scope off the .416, much more efficient with open sights for my intended purpose. Also I feel the big bores are much more fun to shoot with open sights. I looked over the rear peep sights several times, couldn’t decide on a which one yet.
