GMU 336 - Taneum, WA - Questions for Beginner Archery Hunter
« on: September 04, 2018, 08:17:51 PM »
Hey Guys,

This will be my first season hunting, I heard good things about Eastern Washington so I went Archery Eastern Washington. I'm looking at GMU 336 and trying to target further west (because it looks more lush) and north facing hills near a source of water. My question to everybody out there is where is a place that is more isolated that has elk? I spent a weekend out in GMU 336 camping further south by North Ridge and found tracks of elk and bear, but couldn't spot a single animal.

Any hints or tips are much appreciated. Honestly, if you give me a spot in the middle of nowhere that was successful for you in the past or for somebody you know, I'll hike to it. Distance isn't the issue, I just don't know the area as well as I would like.

Thank you for reading this, and good luck to everybody who goes out this year.

-Sam

Take my advice as coming from an elk novice. Find a draw that is deep, dark, and nasty with browse and water down in the bottom. If someone asks and you tell them and they think you are crazy for hiking in you are likely on the right track.
