Bit of exitmemet in Elk camp
« on: September 15, 2018, 05:04:40 PM »
So I decided to take my son (8) to elk camo for few days. Took him out of school for Thursday and Friday. Put on ton of miles on Thursday and he kept up like trooper. Friday morning I wake him up and he tells me his legs hurt and ask if can he sleep some more. I figured missing one morning wouldn't hurt. I'm already awake so decide to make coffee. Heard russling around and assumed he'd woke and decided to get up. Glanced up and from behind our walks a bear. Stood there in shock for sec. then reached for .45. NOT ON HIP!!! Had not put on that morning yet and it was still laying on cot. I watch for few mins in full on panic, knowing this was very unusual behavior for bear. He seemed content to just stare at me. Worried what might happen if Lyan was to suddenly unzip tent I started to walk toward him. I'd picked up bow and mocked arrow by now. Nothing. Just stood there. I then spoke loudly , saying "Go way bear, go way" he took few steps waist from tent and I thought it was done. No. At 30 yrds he turns back toward me and hair raises. Stars grunting and piping jaw. Turns and gives me broadside shot. Let loose and the 100 grain kudu does its job. Runs anther 40 yrs and dies on run rolling into road. My son slept through entire thing. Thanking God he didn't come out of tent
Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me

Nice, now if the elk would just show up right.👍

Everyone but Yogi. Lol. Hell of a pucker factor though. Don't know what would have happened had my son came out of tent and surprised him.

Glad everything turned out well and you put the smack down on that bear. Went looking for problems and found them with a kudu broadhead  :archery_smiley:
