Battery charging
« on: September 16, 2018, 03:53:19 PM »
Backstory , jumped in my 2012 F350 last Friday wont start . Throw the charger on it and get it started . Drove it Fri-Sun and parked it , wife drove it Tuesday for a while and we drove it Thursday and Friday. Jump in it this morning and nothing. Throw the charger ( on the passenger side battery ) on it around 9:30 to charge it. Put the charger on 12v fast charge , about 3:00 I go out and the charger says 95% , I notice  a sulphur smell and hear the driver side battery boiling. ( I replaced the driver battery around 5 years ago , passenger is still the one from when I bought the truck in 2014 ). I've never smelled or heard a battery boil . Is it normal ? Did I smoke it and need to buy two new ones ?

Batteries aren’t meant to last forever. They have a service life. You should probably replace both .

Sounds like you have a two battery diesel truck.  I found out if one battery goes bad it messes with starting the truck.

1 of your batteries may be low on acid causing a bank to fry.look at the batteries if the top comes off see if 1` is lower then the other.the smell and boil means it is done,if they are sealed just replace both it is time.  :twocents: with cold weather coming it will only get worse

Replace em. I run interstates in my 350 and haven’t had an issue before

3-5 years seems pretty average battery life these days. Sounds like you’ve got a bad one. I’d replace both.

:yeah:  A boiling battery is never a good sign.
