Tri-pod adapter for rifle
« on: October 01, 2018, 08:18:14 PM »
I pack shooting sticks for my modern rifle feer hunt (tall CRP). I also pack a spotter and a tripod. Anyone running a tripod adapter to cut out the shooting sticks?

I took the “V” rest off my trigger sticks and put it on to a tripod plate to use. I’ve also thought about getting a quick release pic rail clamp to do the same with.

How did you attach the sticks rest to the head shoe?

I got this one..
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWMM11R/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It swivels and seems well made. I've only shot off it at the range so far, wasn't as great as I thought it'd be.

The v is threaded the same as the tripod head. 5/16x24? I just connected it with a threaded stud. There are thread adaptor that have both thread pitches also

I was hoping there was some sort of quick attachment since o ise the spotter pretty often. I have an extra head shoe so was looking at modding one & keeping the other for my spotter.
Maybe i just need to get better at resting my rifle on the tripod head. Ive see some picatiny type adapters I may look at, but probably not enough time before opener.

I'm running a Shadow Tech PIG saddle on a ballhead - very stable platform if you're shooting from the sitting position.  I've got arca plates on both the spotter and PIG saddle so swapping them on/off the tripod is super quick.

I use something similar mounted on a quick shoe that works with my tripod.  My 15x56 binos, spotter and V all have a quickshoe on them so swapping out takes seconds.

Does your tripod use a "quick shoe" style mount?  Some tripod are screw mount only, others use a shoe system.  I have a vanguard tripod was ~$40, then have bought 2 additional shoes for it it to use the spotter and V.
This is the mount that fits my Vanguard Alta tripod and I use with my V for shooting.

So far for a hunter I think the best option is the spartan sentinel...everything is a compromise in the tripod world so depending on your exact needs it may not be the best option...a much cheaper option is to buy there "weiner" head and rifle adapters and then cut the ball off, thread the stud part to 1/4-20 and put it on any tripod plate youd like..but as a hunter having those trecking poles is pretty nice

If your just wanting to target practice I'd look to RRS systems...I love the hard mount....

You can also get similar set ups to the RRS much cheap but wont be as stable

You could also put a arca rail on your rifle if you wanted to eliminate the saddle. The match shooting guys are going that way and it can be rock solid.

I was looking at the bog pod switcheroo head. No clips or clamps to worry about.
