49 Degrees North - GMU 117
« on: October 17, 2018, 12:53:29 PM »
As luck will have it, I will likely get some time for late modern whitetail, and I am looking to head out in the GMU117, preferably in the Colville National Forest.   I will be rifle hunting likely for whitetail only (not cougar or bear), and it is any buck.

I am new to whitetails and new to that area.   Info on a search here provided mostly information related to moose, bear, and wolf talk.

I AM NOT LOOKING FOR YOUR HONEY HOLES.

I am looking for tips on accessing the area (national forest), nice camp areas, and things to look out for such as wildlife refuge and national park restrictions, steering clear of reservation areas, firearm restriction areas to avoid, and thoughts on predators such as wolves and cougar, since I will likely have my six year old with me and am typically used to western WA forests with relatively little predator concern.

Thanks in advance.

I am not really looking for private land access, although I would not turn down a guaranteed hunt on private land I could share with my boy.  I am mostly just looking to get out and learn and enjoy that area.

Thank you, sir.

Adding that I bought a Rams Maps GMU map of the area to start out after discovering this opportunity.
