Blacktail down this morning
« on: October 20, 2018, 09:02:03 PM »
7am i was up top 600 ft above a large area of 10 year old reprod with a skidded road that run along the bottom of the bluff. My son missed a spike here on opening day. Glassed for two hours and all I saw was a feeding doe. At 915 7 deer come busting out of the reprod at full speed. I don't know if they were spooked or just playing but they ran around in circles leapfrogging and playing dodge about 800 yds away.  By the time I got my spotter on them they had split into two groups 4 going away and 3 heading my way down the skid rd. All three coming my way we're spikes. I ranged them at 470 and set up on a stump to wait for them to get under me at 209 yards. 45 min later they were still out at 350 and started to head for the reprod. I ranged the edge of the reprod at 370 and dialed my scope. The largest of the three stopped right at the edge and I sent one. Could see right away it was a hit he ran 30 yards into the reprod and stopped in a little opening I aimed a little high and sent another round. Bam deer down time to get to work. First deer with my 6.5 creedmoor savage lwh leupold vx3i 3.5x10 . It was awsome to get a bluebird day buck. Unfortunately after the 3 mile pack out I can hardly walk. I figure liver and onions for breakfast. My season over til modern elk. Have fun be safe and hopefully shoot something with more than one antler

yea pics and it would be nice if you posted in the 2018 deer thread above but grats all the same.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter
