rear elevater sight notches
« on: October 24, 2018, 12:47:41 PM »
Ok probably a stupid question I know I should already know, but what yardage does each click, or notch mean?
I'm thinking 50- 100 but don't know.
My lever action 30/30 lost it's rear elevator sight at some time and never messed with the sighting before so need to know now. I purchased a elevator sight for it on gunbroker and slid it under the thing that holds it but haven't sighted it in yet so wondering what each click/notch is before doing so.
Thanks  :)

Just saw  this today, both of my 94's are dead on at 100 yards on the 2nd notch (from the bottom) shooting 170 grain ammo. I had occasion when I was young to handle model 64 (like a 94, but had a curved pistol grip)...I remember my dad and the old guy with the 64 talking about setting the sight on the 2nd not h and never having to move it...

I don't know what the yardage are for the steps in the elevator......never have used any setting other than that we one notch. Did try 150 grain ammo once and neither of my 94's liked them at all.....

Hope this helps with a starting point, anyway.

You can't fix stupid, BUT it can be numbed with a 2x4...

With all the open sights like that I have messed with it varied, I had some on the first notch and some on the last.  Most have been toward the middle.  Some have been big lands while others small notches, lots of variables in rifles out there.  Think most of the notches were about 1” or 1/2” @ 100 yds which was good enough for open sights.

OH ok thanks been gone a few days so haven't had the chance to check this. But thanks yeah seems like I was on the right path in what I was thinking thanks.
I shoot 180 grain through it when I do, so.... But yeah will have to see how it works now.
