Struggling in watershed
« on: October 31, 2018, 08:01:38 AM »
I have a mill creek watershed tag. This is what ive done so far. on saturday i jumped a bull closer to bottom but didnt get a shot. Didnt hunt monday because of really nasty weather. Went in tuesday to the same area, got messed up a bit by the fog and didnt go exactly how i wanted. Didnt get out of fog till about 10:00, when i got below the snow. Seen a few cows but no bulls, they were a ways down also, below snow level. Its suppose to be pretty wet the rest of the week. Im not exactly sure what i want to do. Should i do the same thing i have been? Any suggestions? Thanks! Im thinking i should just hike down a spine all the way to the bottom and hunt down there all day, not sure though

Sounds like a typical shed tag experience, keep at it if your body allows

Heard the same thing from a couple guys I know hunting there as well. Said they saw one bull taken opening day across the canyon and nothing since. Found a big 6 point shed and that's about all they have had for excitement... Good luck man!

I know down sucks but if you can get below the fog that's what you have to do.  You can't shoot what you can't see.

Also, if you have help available make a day of hunting your way all the way out the bottom and get picked up at the cabin.  That way you don't have to climb back out.

Good luck!

I know of 2 bulls that have been killed in there this year. Good luck to you man! Hope you have a stout crew to help you pack out of the bottom!

I know of a nice 6 pt taken way down deep below Table Rock.  The guy and his buddy might still be packing that thing out.  I would recommend going down off the top and covering a lot of ground.  Not sure I would do the hike out to the intake trail cabin in the bottom, as that bottom trail isn't maintained like it used to be.  The Watershed invites many elk hunters, but few leave wanting to come back!  Had a few guys camped next to me this year with tags, one group made it two days and called it, the other guy was still hitting it when I left camp.  We'll see if he is up there when I get back on Friday.  Good luck to anybody still holding tags!

I'm on Blacksnake right now and its fogged in. Been raining all day. My partner shot a 5 point opening day when you could see. Been pretty tough ever sense. Good luck.
