Young Hunter Looking to start a new family tradition
« on: November 10, 2018, 09:56:34 PM »
Hello HW, I'm new to Washing hunting despite the fact that I've lived here for all my life, the reason I am just starting to hunt now is a long story, perhaps I will share in the future. Nonetheless I have made it my goal to harvest a deer in the 2019 season with a bow, I have never hunted with a bow so I am going to be practicing and scouting until the 2019 season arrives. I go to Lost lake in GMU 336 every year with my family so that is where I plan on starting, maybe in a ground blind or a tree stand. Around February, March, and April I plan on going out there to scout for sheds and deer activity because I saw a comment on another post that said if you are new that is a good way to start.

So my question is have you every shed hunted around there and had success?
Have you harvested anything there? Deer, Elk, Bear, etc.
Is that a good place to start or should I try somewhere else?

336 is the Taneum unit

Find a club 90%+of clubs belong to the wsaa at the. Ottom is a list of shoots through our the state. 3Ds are great practice.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Are you talking about the lost lake that's next to manastash lake.  If so that's unit 340 manastash,  not 336 taneum.

No, it's next to lake Keechas, in the top left corner of 336.

I wouldn’t spend my time deer hunting in that area. There is very low deer density in that area. Look for units with more deer. Especially with a bow. More deer = better chance of success. :twocents:

Yeah, a good place to start is with the deer harvest statistics from WDFW:

https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/harvest/2017/reports/deer_gmu_all.php

In 2017, only 10 of 1200+ archers in that GMU were successful. Those are pretty crappy odds.
