Cowlitz Steelhead?
« on: January 02, 2019, 12:49:00 PM »
Anyone been out or have any luck lately?
Some animals WERE harmed in the making of this Hunter. They were also dragged through the dirt, butchered and tasted delicious fried with butter and bacon.

Could be wrong, but I don't think there is much of a run until March on the Cowlitz. I think they got rid of the early winter run some years ago. :dunno:

WDFW and Tacoma Power mitigation at its finest.
Pathetic that they have been allowed to not meet their commitments from when they built the damn dams.

Wdfw turned that river/runs from first to worst in 8 years....the A run is gone, late winters are a late March early April show and the last couple years have sucked,  the claimed birds ate 550k fish from the ponds. I wouldn't be so quick to lay blame on Tacoma power, the state is chucked block full of ineptness...
Just look at the recent uh oh at the minter creek facility. ... couldn't get back up generator started and killed what? 6 million chinook fry.

The late run is a joke. Usually ends up being a bunch of "it's about to get good," then it fizzles out. Not to mention the fish quality sucks, the hens spit eggs all over the boat.

I'd take those Thanksgiving to new year's fish of yesteryear any day. Hell, we had late fish way back when too, and few targeted them.  The summer run is a pathetic shell of what it once was, too.

Sure am glad i got to fish it from the early 90s to the early 2000s when things were still good.  I can remember them upping the limit to 3 one summer, launching at 7pm, putting our 6 fish in the boat by 10, then running back to the parking lot to catch a few z's and doing it again at 5am.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

It's not just the Cowlitz.  A buddy that is new to the area keeps talking about getting a driftboat and how great the fishing is here.  He keeps asking why I don't have any kind of boat (anymore) since I've been here forever.  Doesn't believe about the then and now, and I must be too much a pessimist.  WDFW will show him.......
