Is it as crazy as everyone says on the opener. I've heard some crazy stories of walking across the boats there are so many people??? :yike: :yike:

Never fished it, I will be at Waitts on the East side, we do good there. Whats the chances of a big one out of Mineral?

the chances are very good. i got four last year on opening day that were all over 25 inches. the biggest was 29 inches and weighed 14 pounds. hooked it trolling a leach pattern fly over some sunken logs. :IBCOOL:

WOW  You should edit that post. Dont tell to many people about a place like that. I'm glad to limit on browns all over 20" opener.

I have been going for 20 years and am not going to stop now (unless i take up turkey hunting).

We have a friend that lives a block from the lake, so we camp in there front yard (bon fire), go to the bar and fish the weekend away.

It is a great idea to have your boat already launched before the opener. The boat launch is a zoo opening morning. Mineral has always been a great place. :fishin:
I've slowed down enough in my old age to finally let the game catch up to me

You have to go the opener at Mineral, by June it is usually close to fished out, lol. Just kidding.
Watchout for the guys at the public pier casting 3 oz pyramid sinkers at the boaters. That happened the last time I tried to fish the opener at Mineral. But hopefully it has changed in the last 10 years. They plant some big fish there though.

To each their own but I wouldn't fight that mad house on opening day even if you payed me...you may not be able to walk across on the boats but you can surely toss a rock to several boats from anywhere on the lake.  OH yea, then you get to wait 3 hrs to get your boat out of the lake. It is entertaining to watch all the hungover slobs trying to back a trailer down the ramp with an audience.

As far as the big fish, yea they dump a good number of finnless tank raised brooders, not my idea of a trophy fish.  You will however occasionally pickup a great Brown that's lake grown.

I actually prefer the largemouth fishing over the so called premium trout fishing, 4 - 5 pound largemouth are pretty common and they're not fished all that hard.

Us locals find opening day a great day to get out of town until the craziness cools down...If you're into non stop partying, combat fishing and a lake covered in power bait and marshmallows come on down.

Fished Mineral Lake as a kid and man cathcing those planted mush trout is as exciting as shooting a bull Elk. Well when you are a kid it seems like it.

So get your kids out there on opening day and have fun. I personally have forgone the opening day madness at Mineral lake for 20 years even though I now live only 5 miles away.

Be forewarned that it is an absolute madhouse.

I'm with coonhound. Not my idea of fun. I think I'll go shed hunting instead. I think there is a archery shoot that weekend :) :)
